The general idea of breakthrough propulsion is get another generation of motive power out and usable. That makes "false" a possible (or probable) answer. The ideas of "common physics" preclude faster-than-light travel. But there may be something available to take some "shortcuts" through the fabric of spacetime that could appear as faster-than-light travel. In any case, we need to develop some other drives before the really "advanced" physics allows us to solve the riddle of spacetime. And in particular need to get a handle on the puzzle of gravity. If we could develop something to "control" or "nullify" gravity, we could much more easily get the heck out of this gravity well we're stuck in and "go where no man had gone before" around our solar neighborhood. We flew in hot air balloons, then planes and then rockets. Faster-than-light travel, if possible, comes later. Baby steps....
