The word Ethics comes from the Greek word (ETHIKA), meaning "custom character", as in how we normally treat or should treat one another.

(not sure how to spell it in Greek.. I speak it fluently, but I'm not too great with spelling :P)

The word "ethics" actually comes from the Greek word "ethos," which means custom or character. It's derived from the idea of moral character and principles that guide behavior, rather than specifically meaning society. Ethics is often concerned with determining what is right and wrong in human conduct.

Is it true ethics vary from society to other?

Of course it is! Ethics (Arguably) vary from person to person. An individual believes what they think to be ethical. Ethics are influenced by society as a whole and as that society differs, so does ethics. We may think it's bad to sacrifice people to god as a means of honouring the person, but some tribe in Mongolia might think differently.
