"Sweet Charity" (1969). The ending in the film matches the Broadway play (downer). Director Bob Fosse filmed an alternate ending because he feared the studio would demand a happy ending. But he was able to convince them to keep the original.

Yes There were two different Endings, This has been a favorite film of mine for 30 odd years, The one i knew best was when Charity is wolken up on a park bench by two members of the flower people and realises that marirage is not for her

The second version which I only found out this Saturday 9 November 2008when it was shown on TV here in the U.K. She goes to the bridge in central Parkher boy freind also goes looking for her, he thinks she is comtiplating suiside, they both end up in the stream, realises that he still loves her, It ends up as they both end up happy ever after

great Film, great story, Great Music,

Hi Jim, I saw the last 5 minutes of Sweet Charity on the 9th(yesterday), and I couldn't believe it when i saw it wasn't the ending I know. I too have only ever seen the sad ending and I always have a tear in my eye when it says "she lived hopefully ever after", I was utterly gobsmacked at the happy ending yesterday and wished I had watched it from the begining again! Thanks for clearing up this moment of confusion for me! froggy :-)
