A priest from my seminary said:

"To be a priest means to be called by God to be conformed in a special way to be like Jesus. Because Jesus was a man, a woman cannot be like Him in His Priesthood. No one is worthy of being a priest, it is a gift from God, so it is not right to think of this gift as if some people can do it and some can't."

Besides, priests are just like regular people, some people are bad, some people are good, same goes for priests. If you allow priestesses, the amount of sexual abuse would still remain the same, it would probably even rise since there are women who sexually abuse as well.

---- If she is thinking of married priests:

Reasons why priests don't marry:

-They distract the priests. They can even lead to priests harbouring distracing or even evil thoughts in their minds.

-Jesus was celebate.

-Jeus said:

"12 For some are eunuchs because they were born that way; others were made that way by men; and others have renounced marriage[a]because of the kingdom of heaven. The one who can accept this should accept it."

Stating that He approves celebacy.

Why are there so many churches in Ireland?

Ireland is an almost 100% Catholic country where the Catholic Church still wields considerable influence which has only diminished somewhat in the wake of numerous sexual-abuse scandals by Irish Catholic bishops, nuns and priests. And a country where a church aims to strongly dominate everyday beliefs and values will want a lot of local churches from where parish priests can do the job.

A:Reverend Donald Cozzens (The Changing Face of the Catholic Priesthood) cites studies from studies in 1989, that 48.5 per cent of Catholic priests are gay. Boisvert and Goss (Gay Catholic Priests and Clerical Sexual Misconduct) explain that the Catholic Church is an intensely homoerotic culture.

How can you find married priests in the Catholic Church?

Roman Catholic priests are required to be celibate and refrain from marriage and all sexual activity including masturbation and fantasy. In the early centuries of Christianity and into the fourth century, it was not uncommon for clergy to be married and even to have children. However, after their ordination, clerics were required to be continent (i.e. refrain from sexual relations with their wives). The Council of Elvira in 306 prohibited clergy from sexual intercourse as did the Council of Nicaea in 325 and the Council of Carthage in about 390.For Orthodox Christians and Eastern Catholics, The Council of Quinisext in 692 permitted conjugal relations between priests and deacons and their wives. Therefore, married priests and deacons are the norm in Orthodoxy and Uniat Churches, but celibacy has remained the norm in Latin Rite Roman Catholicism. In certain circumstances however, Protestant or Anglican clergy who are received in the Catholic Church may be permitted to remain married and be ordained in the Catholic Church, provided their spouses consent. Therefore, only Catholic priests who have converted from another denomination could be expected to be married. In any case this is not the norm or ideal.

Were there Catholic priests involved in supporting same-sex marriage in Massachusetts?

Wikipedia indicates: In April 2003, a committee of the legislature held a hearing on the constitutional amendment, but took no action. The four Roman Catholic bishops of Massachusetts, long distracted by the revelations of the sexual abuse of minors by priests, did not address the issue until late May, when they ordered pastors to read and publish a statement to mobilize their parishioners to contact their legislators to urge then to support the constitutional amendment. The Catholic Church has long ago decided that all legal recognition of anything other than the marriage of a single man and a single woman is a grave sin, and contrary to the Natural Law. If any Catholic priest acted in support of purported "gay marriage" he would have been disciplined by his Bishop, if not the Vatican as well.

Do Priest do bad things because there not married?

The vast majority of priests are hard working, holy, and devoted to their work, ministry and worship of God. However, a very small minority HAVE been convicted of sexual crimes against children and others have been involved in other sexual scandals. Many Catholics would say that the celibacy rule of priests should play no part in this, and, for most priests they do not. However, for some, albeit a very small number, celibacy is a major problem. Statistically speaking, in the Anglican Church where priests ARE allowed to marry, the number of cases of sexual problems is far smaller. This may be just coincidence, but many believe that the ability of Anglican priests to lead a normal mmarried life has contributed to a lower number of sexual crimes or scandals.

What are the basis why priests are not allowed to marry?

Priests are entitled to uphold their beliefs and not to convert their attentions to things Catholicism deems less than God. Thus, the reason for not marrying.-Amsterdam612AnswerThere is absolutely no basis in scripture why priests should not marry. in fact, even St Peter was married as were many popes and priests before the rule came in in recent times. The rule came in to the Catholic Church to ensure that priests fulfilled their roles without distraction. However, some have blamed enforced celibacy on the Catholic priesthood as part of the reason for problems over sexual abuse within the Church that has been covered up in recent years. The claim that celibacy ensures that priests fulfill their duties better does not hold water. For one thing many other denominations allow their priests to marry (eg Anglicanism) and they fulfill their priestly role with exactly the same integrity as celibate Catholics. There are now, however, Catholic priests who are married. In the Church of England there are a small number of priests who objected to women clergy and they went over to Rome and became Catholic priests after a suitable time of instruction. Many of these are married with families. This development in the UK has alienated many Catholic clergy - priests who have been loyal for years and who gave up a family life for the priesthood, and married deacons who have been prevented from becoming priests because they had a wife. And yet these newbies had the best of both worlds. So naturally there is much ill feeling towards this man-made rule of celibacy. In fact, in a recent poll in the UK, there was a large majority of Catholics who were now in favour of a married priesthood - and even a smaller majority in favour of exploring women's ministry as more and more Catholics experience female Anglican priests and realise what a wonderful ministry they provide.

What is the early history of pedophiles and homosexuals priests in the catholic church and when did this first become a problem?

There have always been pedophiles and homosexuals, priests or otherwise. The Catholic priesthood doesn't have any higher occurrence of these than the general population, and actually by most counts the occurrence is much lower. People will sin, regardless of their position in life. There are pedophiles and homosexuals in every religion, race, etc. Furthermore, the Catholic Church doesn't consider homosexuality in and of itself to be a sin. Only homosexual acts are sinful, just as are contracepted sex, premarital or extramarital sex, and sexual relations of a priest.
