John Hanson was the first president of the Continental Congress which was a loose confederation of the colonies that soon declared their independence from Britain and later banded together to form the United States of America. Hanson's job was mostly to chair meetings --- he had no powers at all like the powers of the US President, but in a way, he was the first president in America . Some people like to say that John Hanson was really the first president, but he was not the first President of the United States.

∙ 13y agoSuch a claim as this is indeed difficult to defend. As the Father of our Country, Washington served our growing nation with honor, doing all he could to get a young nation up on its feet. After his service in the Revolutionary War, Washington only wanted to go back to his Mount Vernon home; but despite all of this, he heard the call to serve his country. The rest, as one could say, is history.
As a suggestion, I recommend that you read history of the era, as well as the words of Washington. After the course of this reading, see if your opinion of Washington changes.
