He was born Roman Catholic -- his father was a very devout man. Although Schubert himself wrote a number of religious musical works, he is said to have been an atheist or deist of some sort by the time he died. This is widely debated.

• Johann Strauss I (1804-1849) His grandfather was Jewish, but Strauss converted to Catholicism.
• Johann Strauss II (1825-1899) Was Roman Catholic until about 1887, when he moved to what is known today as Bavaria.
• Johann Strauss III (1866-1939) Unknown religious affiliation.

Apparently, he was not a religious man, but no, he was not Jewish. He, like Beethoven who influenced him during the Romantic era, was raised a Roman Catholic.
