Zeus's first wife was Metis. When he married her, she was not pregnant. Later on, she became pregnant. When Zeus found out, he swallowed her whole. He did not want a baby. A few months later, he had a killer head ache. He asked the god Hephaestus, the lame blacksmith married to Aphrodite, to open up his head. He used an ax and gently tore open his forehead. Athena, the goddess of war, popped out, fully grown and clothed with armor. Athena became Zeus's favorite child.
