Probably the first European to visit Nebraska was the Spanish explorer Coronado in the 1500s. Later, the area was visited by the French explorer, Bourgmont in 1714. During the 1720s, Nebraska was again visited by the Spanish who came to see what the French were up to. The expedition was led by Pedro de Villasur.
