1. A Dhampir is the living form of a vampire. A person with everything necessary to become a real vampire. You become one by being infected by a real vampire. Blade is a Dhampir.
2. A real vampire is a dead Dhampir. It is that little bit extra that keeps him animate after he is dead.
3. A male vampire can have children by a living women. The child will be a Dhampir
4. A Dhampir is probably the progenitor of the Dhampir/Vampire blood-line. A person who either through mutation or infection(s) or magic, acquired that little something extra needed to initiate the blood-line.
5. The basic requirement to be a Dhampir/Vampire is the ability to steal life-force. You don't necessarily have to drink blood to do this. There are incubus, succubus, psi-vampires etc etc etc, all who don't include blood in their diet.
6. You don't have to be human to become a vampire (by the above definition) there are many weird things that fall into this catagory.
7. Vampires do not change shape. Count Dracula did this because he (in addition to being a vampire) was also a powerful sorcerer.
8. Vampires can be out and active during the day. Count Dracula did as much. However there are certain vampires who have a strong reaction to sunlight. Count Orlock was vapourized just walking across in front of a window at dawn.
9. Vampires are unable to change their character once they are dead. Whatever behaviors, options, habits they had before they died they will retain after they are dead. Count Dracula was very conflicted over religeon and had a strong aversion to religous icons. This is not a trait common to all vampires. Some vampires are very religous.
10. A vampire may acquire knowledge and change his opinion on an intellectual level, but all his emotional baggage remains pretty much the same.
11. A vampire cannot change his physical appearance. If he died as a child he will remain a child. Can't even change his hair style.
12. A wooden stake through the heart may kill a vampire but this would be a very minimal requirement. A vampire could recover from such a minor wound, if it wasn't very deep or serious that is. Usually it is best to dismember and burn the body.
13. vampires are never bothered by cold...there body is cold even.
14. Vampires can transform into any humans face.
