The first cookies sold by Girl Scout troops in the 1920's and 1920's were sold for 25 to 35 cents per dozen. In the mid-1950's, cookies were being sold for 50 cents per box and at 65 to 75 cents per box in the mid 1960's. By the 1970's, the price of a box of Girl Scout cookies was about $1.00 to $1.25 and by 1986 they were selling for $2.00 per box. In the 1990's the cookies were selling for $2.50 per box and by 2000, the price was $3.00 per box. In the 2011 Girl Scout cookie sale, most councils were selling the cookies for $3.50 to $4.00 per box.

The first troops selling cookies baked their own. The cookies were most likely sugar cookies.

In 1922, a cookie recipe was published which was used by many Girl Scouts. Girl Scouts continued to bake and sell sugar cookies in the 1920's and 1930's.

The first cookies were baked in the homes of Girl Scouts and it was a sugar cookie.

When Girl Scout councils started selling commercially baked cookies, the cookies were baked in the shape of a trefoil.

By 1951, there were three kinds: Sandwich, Shortbread, and Chocolate Mints (now known as Thin Mints).

In 1917, the first Girl Scout cookies sold were made by the girls and were sold as a service project. The cookies were a sugar cookie.

The official first sale of bakery made cookies was in 1936 and the cookies were a trefoil shaped shortbread cookie. They did not have a specific name for the cookie until later. The box simply said, "Girl Scout Cookies".
