Challenges on managing loss of agricultural lands include progressive urban development, depreciating revenue from agricultural lands, farmer migration, and arising complicated problems caused by modern technologies.

Due to increasing population and progressive technological and industrial advancements, urban development is becoming unstoppable demanding transformation of wider agricultural areas. With attractive price offers, agricultural land owners are easily convinced on selling their agricultural land which apparently is the fastest way of generating large amount of cash they can use for any other projects turning their backs away from farming. The depreciating revenue from agricultural lands and a less profitable farming are among the reasons that made farmers less interested in farming and resort to any other kind of jobs. With technological advancements going far ahead in the cities, there has been growing migration of people from rural area to urban areas. Many farmers sold or abandoned their farm areas and seek city life. Younger generation strive to have other professions far from farming and live with a more decent jobs. This change in perspective is highly associated with the current social changes which made city life more attractive and promising with more opportunities. The use of high yielding varieties and application of modern technologies in farming in an attempt to make farm production more attractive are also creating some problems such s furthering soil erosion, further lowering of soil fertility and soil organic matter loss. With such problems, farming becomes complicated needing more intensive work, increasing the production cost tremendously which can be discouraging to farmers due to less profitable production at the end. As the most probable consequence, farmers sell their farm lands and try finding good luck in other industries.

The challenges mentioned are all associated to the human activities. Urbanization itself is a human activity. With population increase, more home lands are required leaving no choice but to use parcels of agricultural lands to build homes to live. Migration to cities is also a human activity. Using high technologies in farming causing problems which make farm less profitable is an effect of human activity.
