Smokers keep smoking for three main reasons. First and probably most importantly, nicotine. Nicotine causes surges of dopamine in the brain which is a feel good neurotransmitter in the brain. Within seconds of the first puff, dopamine is released and a smoker is calmed or given a short boost of energy. Secondly, the hand-to-mouth habit becomes a relaxing movement in itself. They associate smoking with enjoying things more, such as coffee or alcohol drinking. The final reason would be the social aspect, of smokers around them which encourage the social habit.

I can't think of any reason why they would use fake cigarettes on TV and film. Enough people smoke so that the actors who want to smoke can smoke onscreen. People who do not smoke just don't light up cigarettes in front of the camera.

Most people tend to smoke in Italy and New York. I believe the reason is people feel older and more cool then before, also it becomes a habit and can be past down from family to family. Did you know that some Italians smoke even sometimes at the age of eleven? Yes that is true also a lot of hair dressers smoke as well. Some people like to smoke in night clubs and while gabbling too. But weather you ask the same person or not you will probably find a different answer to this topic.
