- It is quite common for the maid of honor to live out of town. When she comes for the wedding she would probably stay with the bride. The maid of honor is there to serve the needs of the bride. Going with her to get her hair done and possible make-up done professionally (this may also include yourself); keeping her calm; making sure she eats something before the ceremony (many brides do not eat because they are nervous and some can become faint or even faint); to make sure her wedding dress flows correctly before walking down the aisle; keeping her wedding dress off the ground when going into the church and and coming out; holding her bouquet during the wedding ceremony; making sure her dress is placed correctly while the photographer is taking pictures and once at the reception the maid of honor should be sure the bride gets a drink (whether it be water of other beverage) and also to help her when she needs to go to the washroom.
