It is thought the the Irish produced a salted beef as early as the Middle Ages, but corned beef is not a national Irish food. It was a popular substitute for bacon for Irish-American immigrants in the 19th century. Corned beef and cabbage is the Irish-American version of the Irish bacon and cabbage dish and, in North America, is often served during St. Patrick's Day celebrations.

The appearance of corned beef in Irish cuisine dates to the 12th century in the poem Aislinge Meic Con Glinne or The Vision of MacConglinne . But it would have been a little different to todays.
The translation to english doesn't cross to well but it is called dry meat which would have been salted
