Three different modulating techniques are emploed to provide digital television (i.e. satellite, cable, UHF ) and these are known as DQPSK, QAM and COFDM. Each technique is a variation of phase modulation. QAM also takes advantage of amplitude as well as phase changes.

What is the digital pulse modulation?

There are 3 main types of digital pulse modulation:Pulse time modulation (PTM), somewhat similar to analog phase modulation.Pulse width modulation (PWM), the width of the pulse represents the signal.Pulse code modulation (PCM), serial transmission of binary bits forming numeric or character codes that represent the signal. All of these can be modulated on an RF carrier using any of the standard modulation techniques: AM, FM, Phase Modulation, etc. One advantage with AM digital pulse modulation techniques over AM analog is that the carrier can be 100% modulated, which cannot be done with analog, thereby allowing significant reductions in transmitter power without loss of coverage range. Sometimes FM digital pulse modulation techniques are referred to as Frequency Shift Keying (FSK). A very complex method of combining Phase Modulation and AM to increase the bit density of digital pulse modulation on an RF carrier is called Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (QAM).

When will tv broadcasters start using the 1080 format?

Many of them already are, but even after the digital transmission changeover in Febuary 17, 2009, many can (and probably will) continue to use the old 525 line NTSC format recorded programs, but will have 'line doubled' the picture to be compatible with the digital transmission systems.

Why doesn't a digital TV with a digital tuner get a digital picture?

The signal sent to the TV must be a digital signal as well.

What do you need for the new digital tv signal?

A tv antenna and a digital tv and/or a converter box.

Will the digital TV signal cause damage to an analog TV that does not have a digital converter box?

No.

What are applications of delta modulation?

Delta modulation is extremely important for high-tech lives that humans live today. Delta modulation is basically analog to digital and digital to analog signal providers, allowing for radio communication devices such as TV remotes.

What is delta modulation?

Adaptive delta modulation is a analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog conversion technique which is primarily used for voice transmission data and can be used for multiple purposes.

What is the difference between the AM modulation and ASK modulation?

This is hard to explain. AM means amplitude modulation, while ASK is amplitude-shift keying. AM is usually analog as it is modulated based on the strength of the signal, though you can use it to send a digital signal. ASK represents digital data as variations in the amplitude of a carrier wave. Any digital modulation technique will represent the data using a finite number of different signals. While AM is used mostly for radio and television, ASK is used for telegraph signals, transmission across telecommunications equipment, and fiber optics.
