Moving costs include:

-the actual move (moving company rate--transportation, packing/loading if needed, moving supplies)

If you consider driving it yourself in a rental truck, you'll also have to add in the gas charges in a rental truck (more than you might think), insurance, cost of additional nights on the road due to max speed recommendations in a rental (can only travel 55 MPH), plus any mileage overage charges.

'Soft' costs that can be overlooked in the process:

-travel costs to your new home (hotel stays, fuel if you're driving or plane tickets if flying, meals on the road, etc.)

-pet boarding/transportation

-auto/boat transportation

-closing costs for your new home

-expense of 'scouting' to find your new home (travel to new area, lodging and meals, realtor)

-deposits and activation fees with utility companies for your new place
