What is the charge for a moving service to move a shipping container?

Cost of Shipping a Container
Costs vary according to destination, size, weight, shipping class, and possibly other factors. The charges of various moving/freight companies for the same container can vary greatly, too. To find the best price, you will need to know the shipping location and destination, size and weight of the container, and perhaps other information. Many companies will give a price quote online. The related links below can provide you with a place to compare rates and companies.

What questions should you ask when hiring a packing or unpacking service?

Make sure they are registered with an ID! Don't let them take off with your stuff if they are not registered. They could hold your stuff hostage until you pay them what they want. It happens all the time. Answer

If you're going to the expense of hiring a company to pack and unpack your items, I would choose a recognized name-brand moving company. Call three in your area and get estimates. Make sure the employees are bonded and ask what insurance is included. Ask them what packing materials they will use, how many people they will send and what training their movers receive.

Twice I've moved with the company paying relocation expenses, including packing and unpacking. Be aware that when they unpack, they will just stuff everything somewhere - not put it where you want it. Having them pack is a luxury (if you can afford it), but having them unpack can be a nightmare. I'd rather do it myself. Answer

Assure everything is included. Get a firm quote, not an estimate. Don't plan on packing anything yourself at the last minute or having them pack something at the last minute. A 'few' items at the end can double or triple your cost.

You can find packing and moving companies from the links below.

Check to see if the mover is licensed and insured or you could be out your stuff should it become lost or stolen. Of course you would want to ask for references and then go from there.

About how much should it cost to move under 1K sq feet of furniture from the Midwest to California?

It cost my husband and I about $1,800 to rent a 17 foot truck for the 5 day journey from Minneapolis, MN to Olympia, WA (about 1700 miles). That was for rental and gas. Keep in mind that when the truck is full, it will probaly only get 8 miles or so per gallon. Other moving companies would have charged a similar price. The 17 foot truck wsa large enough to hold all of our belongings to fill a very cramped 850 sq. ft. apartment.

For distances over 300 miles,it's frequently the same price to pay a professional moving company as to do U-haul. This assumes you pack everything yourself, and they load it. I would call and get estimates from three different moving companies, then check rental truck prices. It it's going to cost the same, it's a lot less worka and hassle to pay the movers.

There was a similar question on Moving s.org regarding a move from California to Kansas. A lady was asking how much cheaper it would be for her to rent a Uhaul and drive it to Kansas, as compared to hiring a full service moving company. It turned out that it will actually be cheaper for her to hire a long distance mover, rather then move by herself. (See the link to the right)

The cost of a move depends on the distance traveled, so exact cities

would be needed for an accurate quote. Have you considered moving pods, where you pack a portable moving container and the company picks them up and moves them to your location? Typically someone in a 1k sq ft residence might require 3 to 4 portable storage containers (depending on the size of the containers.) Assuming the Midwest means Chicago and California means San Francisco, 3 moving pods would run somewhere around $2600 and if 4 containers were required it would be roughly $3000.

The exact moving costs would depend on which cities you're moving to and from, but you can get a quick quote from most moving companies online. Some companies offer moving containers that are great for smaller moves--you can reserve 2-3 containers, but if you only fill 1 or 2, you're only charged for the space you use (a typical 1 bedroom apartment uses 1-2 containers). It works very similar to a moving trailer option--an empty 28' trailer is delivered to your home, and you pack and load, only using the space you need. A 'per-foot' rate allows you to control your final charges.

What does it cost to move from New York to Florida?

The cost to move from New York to Florida will depend on the cities you're moving from, how much you are moving, and the dates you're planning to move within. The move costs can also vary depending on how you would like to move--full service, a 'you pack, we drive' company, or by driving a rental truck.

Some companies allow you to save on moving costs since you do the packing and loading of your belongings, then handle the driving (including the fuel, taxes, road tolls/fees). If you're looking for a full service move, some companies offer the option to build a custom move that fits your needs (complete moving packing, packing/loading only, unloading help only, etc.). The size of your shipment, the actual cities you're moving to/from, and the services you choose will determine your move costs.

How much does it cost to ship a car from the US to the UK?

Two ways to ship a car...container and non container. If it's a regular car (i.e. a family car that you won't get too upset over the possibility of minor scratches), the cost should be under $1500.00 USD (fifteen hundred). If scratches or dings are a concern, then you would want to ship in a container. Container shipping for an average size car should cost under $7000.00 USD (seven thousand). Insurance would be extra and should cost between 1.5 and 2% of the car's value. Most companies also add a small (about $50.00 USD) handling fee.

I just checked on having an Austin Healey shipped from west coast to Italy, I was surprised that it only costs $1500 through Wallenius Wilhelmsen Lines, who charge variously by weight and by size.

Car shipping rates vary dependent on the amount of traffic moving to that particular part of the world and distance shipped. Many shipping lines will offer very attractive car shipping rates due to the volume of return traffic they have from a particular country.

What is the best way to move a large TV from one apartment to another?

Moving CartDepending on the disance, size of doorways, if stairs have to be negotiated. I would think a cart similar to those used at Home Depot, to move plywood, and such would work. Calling the place where it was purchased and getting their input, would probably be helpful. You could simply put a couple of blankets around your t.v if its flat screen then in a box with bubble wrap. Second OpinionIf you have a lot of helping hands, have 5 or 6 relatively strong guys (or girls) carry the TV by hand. It's cheaper, free (in some instances), and may be faster than doing it yourself or with 2 people. Two Ways depending on type of TVIf trying to move an older bulky TV by yourself the only safe would be using a hand truck or dolly. Pad with some blankets & you should be fine. Your flat screen TV is another story. Be careful of the screens. Do not put any kind of bubble wrap or plastic on the screen. It is always best to keep the original box & packing materials for transportation of these newer flat screens. The weight is not usually the issue.

What size moving truck should you rent to move a two bedroom condo with lots of boxes?

Try looking at some local removalist companys websites, a lot of them should have online estimation/quotes that can give you an idea of how many square meters your "load" will take up in the back of a truck. Normally you just check boxes saying how many of what items you have and it will automatically calculate for you. Consider downsizing while you are packing and label the boxes clearly to make unpacking easier on the other end. I used a 17 foot truck and it was completely full.

How much do movers charge?

== == Generally speaking, Local Moves are done on a-paid-per- hour basis. Experienced Moving companies (over 20 years of service) charge a fair price for a Quality moving service. NEVER HIRE A MOVER with the LOWEST PRICE. The old dictum says: You get what YOU pay for ! Book with a Reputable Experienced Mover and YOU'll be glad you did.

Moving cost totally depends on the distance and also on the weight and volume of the consignment. .
There is no way we can give you a straight answer. It depends on so many details such type of move(local or long distance), size of your home, distance and etc. But here is some general idea for you.

Local moves are primarily charged by an hourly rate.

2movers + truck $70-90/hr (depends on the season and area)

And each extra mover will be another $25-35/hr

Long distance moves are charged by the weight of your load and the distance.

What is the easiest way to move somewhere new without knowing anyone in that area or having a job in that area?

"The easiest way" might be different depending on what kind of person one is and what one wants out of life. And on one's intentions are, but here is my suggestion, based on my experience, which includes three straight years of constantly moving from place to place:

Find happiness in your surroundings.

If this is not possible, other suggestions MAY include:

  • Buy a Mobile Home / Trailer / Caravan, and a vehicle powerful enough to tow it. That way, you don't need to know anyone in the area you want to move to, your outgoings will be low, if you don't mind doing various things to work temp or casual, you will meet a lot of people quickly, and if you find you after all don't like the new area or the people in it you just drive off to somewhere else!
  • Alternatives might be, in summer, use a tent. Or if you are alone, just rent a room or lodge, or sleep in a YMCA hostel or something similar to that. If money is real tight, sleep in the back of the car! You can go into a posh hotel every few days for breakfast, and ask to use a bathroom - the staff will often let you use an empty room so you can change and clean yourself up. You can say how you're doing a self-build and there are no facilities on site, for example.
  • If you like comfort above all and have a generous budget, just go to the area and stay in the best hotel. Go the round of Estate Agents, banks, etc and while doing so, looking for properties, secretly look out for job opportunities / businesses to acquire.
  • If you have enough time, it would be sensible to holiday in the area for a few times, getting to know people there and feeling your way in, including looking for work if that is what you need. Remember, owning is cheaper than renting, and working for one's self is better than working for anyone else!

I'm trying to do that right now, move to North Carolina from the northeast, plain and simple it is not easy. employers actually state in there open positions 'only hiring city residents' etc. It's a catch-22, You need a job to move there, but you can't move till you have one. It sucks!

The same for me also. I am relocating to Charlotte area and I keep getting that you have to live here before we can hire you.

Hey Something you can do is to go to the local post office and get a p.o. box there and use that as your local address, get a prepaid cell like simple freedom or tracfone and use the p.o. box so that it will register you as local. They can't say anything then. Or even better Get a skype phone if you have a broadband connection and use the place your moving to for the local number it can give you, It's $60 a year all together that unlimited calling and a local number. It's just like a prepaid cell except you can live in North Dakota and have a Charlotte number and no one knows the difference and won't use any minutes. So your looking at a total of 60 for the phone and about 20-25 for 6 months for the po box so $85 at most will register you as a local in the town. Hope that helped.

If you have good credit and a good payment record on utilities, it is fairly easy to rent and get set up in a new town without a job. The only thing is that you still have to make the payments even though it might take awhile to land that job. Moving there with a plan that includes unexpected events, frugal expectations and savings will get you through. I did it and it all worked out, but you really have to pay attention to your outgoings.

:

I've relocated by working a retail job like Home Depot, Lowe's, CVS, etc. Then ask for a transfer to where you want to go. There's no loss of income and you are also able to have the time off to make the move. Once you get to your destination you can always get another job if you're not happy at the new store. Doing a transfer also makes it easier to get an apartment.

I agree with some of those above. You need some savings to help you live safely for several months while you settle. A small apartment along a bus line, simple home cooked meals, wearing what you have and a survival job will help you while you find that job. Camping and other alternatives are cheaper, but they take a lot of energy, which might be better spent on job hunting, or working temp jobs. I have noticed that phone interviews are difficult to "win" and that it is better to be in the town where you are interviewing.

How much would it cost to have a moving company load and move approximately 8500 lbs of stuff across the US?

Ask [a moving company]. You should be able to get your answer there.

[Note: this page contained the trademarked name of a specific moving company, which asked that their name be removed.]

AnswerI would call three name brand moving companies and get estimates from each. The most affordable alternative is for you to pack everything, so they just load it in the truck. AnswerI just received a quote for my move. To move 6,500lbs., from Dallas to LA., they were going to charge me $8,500. Needless to say, I have found a friend that will do this for $1,000! Good luck! AnswerYou could ask a national moving company, that has offices throughout the U.S. for a quote.

Society and Civilization

Why is culture important?

Culture is important because

When the word "culture" is mentioned, we can think of many things as "cultural", such as language, clothings... etc, because we classify cultures of different places. However, culture is so valuable that it has to be kept for thousands of years, and passed on by one generation to another. Culture is so important that it is more than its distinct visible features, if we extends this to the inner self of a person, to members within a society, further to the whole community, maybe we can find some answers by finding out how they are affected by culture.

and also...

Since culture can form invisible bonds between members in the community, this can hold people with the same cultural background together, passing on the values. This propogation of values is can not only transmit culture knowledge and retain the relationship among people, it also builds up a long term tradition after years and years. Culture is strengthened in this way because it can give background and reference to its later generations of its ability of keeping the long-term tradition, gaining the sense of belonging of people to the country of that culture.

Last But Not Least,

Culture is important because it explains what that place is also about and its history.

How do you change residency when moving from one state to another?

The easiest way is to go to the post office and fill out a change of address form. That should take care of all of your mail. You'll also have to go to the DMV in your new city and have your license changed and get your vehicle registered in the new state. In the United States, there is no explicit need to inform state, country, and city governments of a change of residency. Activities in which the individual is involved in are the only cause for indicating to government or any other person or entity that one has moved. Diverting mail to the new place of residence is essential, because most other vital communications come in via mail. Important transmissions such as bills and voter packets indicate how to change the address and residency. If the person moving plans on voting, each state has slightly different rules regarding voter registration. There is no catch-all means to announce one's change of residency. Most states have rules qualifying legal residency, some local governing bodies have their own rules. Usually, utility bills or a statement from someone who is responsible for you at the new place of residence will establish residency. As for moving abroad, each state has provisions for absentee voters situated abroad. Write them regarding the procedures or check on their website. Just because you have left your old state of residence, does not mean they have excommunicated you.
