Might be Wake Island I know our troops were left there by the navy and when thousands of Japanese troops landed on the beach we opened up killing them all with minimal casualties. Don't quote me on it, it is a wild guess like all my other answers based on my knowledge.

It was in fact called the Battle of the Philippine Sea.
The term "Marianas Turkey Shoot" refers to the aerial battle that took place between U.S. Navy and Marine carrier borne aviators and flyers of the Imperial Japanese Navy and the Japanese Army on June 19 and 20, 1944. The engagement as a whole was christened the Battle of the Philippine Sea, and it took place near the Marianas Island group. The Battle of the Philippine Sea was the fifth and final major carrier vs. carrier engagement of the Pacific war.
Aircraft flying from seven U.S. fleet carriers and eight light carriers engaged Japanese airmen based on five fleet carriers, four light carriers, and nearby island airbases. While the overall numbers were reasonably even -- 956 U.S. aircraft vs. roughly 750 Japanese planes -- the outcome was staggeringly lopsided. The American forces lost 123 aircraft and one battleship was damaged. The Japanese, on the other hand, were devastated: three fleet carriers destroyed, two oilers sunk, six other ships damaged, and roughly 600 airplanes lost, along with most of their pilots.
By the summer of 1944, the average quality of American naval flyers far exceeded that of their Japanese counterparts. Perhaps more importantly, Japan had not significantly upgraded its carrier-borne aircraft since before the war began. On the other hand, Americans flying over the Marianas were sitting in F6Fs, F8Fs, and F4Us, new and powerful fighter planes specifically designed to overcome the early-war advantages held by Japanese fighters like the Mitsubishi Zero.
After the Battle of the Philippine Sea, Japan was never again able to mount a significant aerial attack against U.S. forces. By some accounts, the battle and its outcome heralded the onslaught of the kamikazes, the one-way suicide flights that represented the last desperate gasp of a dying empire.
Battle of the Philippine Sea (Marianna's Turkey Shoot) & Battle of Leyte Gulf.
The Battle of Saipan was fought on Saipan, an island in the chain of islands known as the Mariana Islands. The "Marianas Turkey Shoot" was the Air Battle, and a huge turning point in the Pacific Theater. US Navy Sea planes fought Japanese Imperial Land based planes during this battle over Saipan and the surrounding islands, and the Japanese lost most of their remaining experienced pilots as the US inflicted heavy casualities without many losses of their own pilots and planes.
