It could be when the positive wire is plugged in the negative slot and the negative wire is plugged in the positive slot. This can make the readings negative.

What is the zero error and the reading uncertainty (error) for a meter rule?

The zero error depends on the user, and the wear on the metre rule. Given that smaller rulers have about 2mm of material before the zero mark, wear is unlikely to exceed that without being noticed. The reading error is +/- 1 mm.

What would be the voltmeter reading if the lamp across which it is placed has a broken filament?

A voltmeter connected across the broken (open) filament of a light bulb reads the full voltage of the power supply whether the bulb is in a series or parallel circuit. -- In a series circuit with other components in series with the bulb, this reading tells you that at least one of the components is open, possibly the filament. -- In a parallel circuit with other components in parallel with the bulb, or with the bulb connected directly to the power supply, this reading tells you nothing ... the voltmeter reads the full power supply voltage whether the bulb is open or good. The voltmeter isn't a very helpful measurement to identify an open filament. An ohmmeter, with the power to the circuit turned off, is much more helpful.

What is the purpose of a voltmeter in a circuit?

the purpose of a voltmeter is used to measure voltage in a circuit

Describe the proper placement of a voltmeter in a circuit?

A voltmeter should be connected in a parallel connection

What is the ideal voltmeter high or low?

Ideal Voltmeter has an infinite resistance so it won't draw current from the circuit, but in real life ideal voltmeter doesn't exist.

Why does the total emf of dry cell in series not equal in the reading of voltmeter?

because in ckt connection there r done some ohmic loss due to the connecting wires and other factor , so voltmeter reading is not equal to its rated reading. and this also done due to different error like instrument error , measurement error etc...

Will the rusting of nails in a sodium chloride - water solution effect the reading off a voltmeter or ammeter?

An ammeter or a voltmeter gives the reading of the flow of current, which is due to the movements of ions. When a rusted nail is immersed in the solution it will add the no of ions into the solution. This will increase the ion concentration and therefore will change the reading of a voltmeter and ammeter.

A multirange voltmeter which scale is numbered from 0 through to 250 the pointer falls mid range on the scale interpret the reading on the meter?

With the pointer mid range on the scale, the reading of the multi-range voltmeter would be 125 volts. With the pointer mid range on the scale, the reading of the multi-range voltmeter is 125 volts.

What is a reading error?

A reading error is when you accidently read something wrong :)

What is a absolute error?

The difference between the corrected reading and the mean (average) reading is called 'Absolute error.

What is the Disadvantage of using an ammeter and voltmeter to measure resistance?

There will be errors. The error comes from the measured resistance size of the decision.

What are sources of error in a titration?

parallax error - reading of volume of burette

Why potentiometer is more accurate than voltmeter?

volt meter draws current from the device whose reading is to be taken and potentiometer does not draw current from the device so it is better to use potentiometer than voltmeter
