remove the barrel and clean the heck out of the magazine tube, recoil spring, and friction ring. Keep in mind the location of all components. Put it all back together with a light coat og gun oil on the magazine tube. Also, with the Magnum, it will only function properly with 3" and 2-3/4" magnum loads. A regular 2-3/4" will not function properly.
==Wrong Answer Above== (Please note) The above answer is partially correct.Cleaning as well as lubricating the mag tube is very correct. But the Browning is a very mechanical piece of machinery. If the gun states 2-3/4 inch it means just that.the action was never designed for 3in shells due to the short action of the bolt assembly and receiver.3in shells will destroy the gun. The "Friction rings" are very important parts to the sucessfull operation of an a-5. the friction rings may be configured to opperate with heavy or light 2-3/4 in.There are two rings, one at the bottom of mag tube @the receiver and one at the end of the mag tube. The preceeding set up will allow you to use light target loads with proper ejection. With both friction rings at the top of mag tube this configuration will allow you to use heavy loads. If these 'Friction rings' are not set up properly the gun will either do one or two things,Not eject properly,or pound the barrel and bolt mechanism severly and eventualy destroy the gun. My sugestion is to go to Browning.com and download the owners manual for free and observe the do's and don't's of the auto-5

First you could start collecting shells and learn about the shells that you collect. Learn things like the shell's scientific name, where it is found. You can read some books on shells or read online articles. Slowly build up your knowledge about shells.
The 300 Win Mag wasn't introduced until 1963. It could have had a new barrel put on it. Take it to a gunsmith.
