Many countries have traditions of painting, coloring or otherwise decorating eggs for Easter. This was a common pagan spring tradition, and has been incorporated into the christian traditions of many countries.
Additionally, many non-christian countries have begun practicing the pagan trappings of christian Easter traditions. Chocolate eggs and bunnies can be seen in many countries where Christianity is not practiced widely.
Simple dyed eggs at Easter are common throughout Europe, North America, and Australia. Intricately decorated eggs, made using batik, painting, applique and other techniques, are common throughout Eastern Europe, particularly among Slavic peoples.
Some people have traditions that support entertainment. For example a Carnival (carneeval) in Jamaica, is a tradition 40 days before Easter but also entertaining. Another example is in Ireland, the Irish dance is a tradition but still entertainment.

Easter is still celebrated for two reasons: Christians celebrate it as an observance to Jesus rising from the grave. Many people who are or are not Christians celebrate it because they enjoy giving kids Easter baskets, hiding eggs for children to find, getting together with their families for a special meal or for activities that have become traditions in their countries at that time of year.
many were set back a decade or so with technology, they are still poor, the people are mentally scared from the way they lived. many governments are still corrupt.
Eastern Orthodoxy is just as old as Catholicism. Before 1054 there was simply the Church. No separate denominations or anything. Afterwards, the Catholic and Orthodox churches were formed and later differences in tradition and theology arose. For example, the Catholic Pope is infallible, the Orthodox use a different calendar to calculate Easter, and the Orthodox still use tradition Byzantine style when painting their icons. There are many differences and yet both churches hope to reunite someday to restore the Christian faith to it's once universal state.

Very much so, especially on countries where Christians are still persecuted. As an example even today (Easter Day 2011) a group of Christians who tried to celebrate Easter Holy Communion in a church in China were arrested and imprisoned on the charge of sedition.
It is a tradition, but it is not a holiday. It is still a normal trading day for shops.
