Brazil was discovered on the exact day of April 22nd, 1500, by a Portuguese colonizer called Pedro Alvares Cabral. The first sight of land for him was a mountain, which he named "Monte Pascoal" or "Paschal Mountain", because it was Easter on that specific day.
The natives here were called "Indians" because they thought they had reached India.

∙ 10y agoTechnically South Africa has never been discovered, it is one of the oldest inhabited regions of the world and has always had a population (sometimes small) of indigenous people.
From a "western" perspective, however, South Africa was first discovered in 1487 ad.
