Very little. They are widely considered to have worsened the situation by exporting the majority of available food from Ireland to Britain. They did however set up work houses for people to "earn" food. This consisted of a days toil in order to receive a meal afterwards. The work comprised of thing such as the infamous 'roads to nowhere' or famine roads- pointless roads were built where they would not be used in order to make work available. Charity was not provided.

It was not a famine, it was genocide against the Irish race. Ireland produced enough food to feed 18 million people in the late 1840's and their population was only 9 million but the food was removed at gunpoint by 75 regiments of British soldiers.

The British govt. in India did not pay much attention towards famine problem during 1760-1857.During this period they give more toward waging war and profit making in trade and commerce. It was only during the early part of the 19th century they did make certain petty measures to check the problem.In1812 the British company in India restricted export of food grains from the famine affected area and tried to export from other part of the country. The British government to take active Parr only from the year 1833.However relief to the poor were left to the private relief which is very irregular and brief in nature.

After the revolt of 1857 the British Crown takeovers the administration of India directly from the British East India Company .This the responsibility relief measure fell upon the imperial Government. Thus the British Government began to appoint various famine committees and commissions to take up regular famine relief measures.
