The most consequential thing he hid was to veto a bill to reestablish the Bank of the United States. His Whig party had worked hard to push the bill through Congress. After the veto all but one of his cabinet resigned and he was expelled from the Whig party. Needless to say they did not nominate him for another term.

He achieved the annexation of the Republic of Texas in 1845.

On Tyler's last full day in office, March 3, 1845, Florida was admitted to the Union.
