Barack Obama became the 44th President of the United States in 2008. In achieving that, he also became the first African-American president the country has had. He also won re-election in 2012. His most noted push for legislation was the Affordable Health Care Act, aka Obamacare, which extended health care to millions of Americans. He ended the war in Iraq and brought most of the troops home. He supervised the mission that led to the killing of Osama bin Laden. He rescued the American Auto Industry and helped it to return to profitability. Many economists believe he prevented the US from experienced an economic Depression (although it should be noted that others disagree; his political opponents say he did not do enough to reduce the deficit or improve the economy). It is still very early in his second term, but he has said he wants to work on immigration reform, address the issue of gun violence, and continue to grow the economy. Whether he will achieve any of these goals remains to be seen.
