Roberto Clamente was a Puerto Rican-born Major League Baseball player. He played for the Pittsburgh Pirates. He is famous for the following:

• National League Most Valuable Player (1966)
• 3000 Career hits
• 12-time Gold Glove recipient
• Led the league in batting average for 4 of his 18 years as a player
• First Hispanic player to win a World Series ring as a starter
• Selected to play in the All Star game 12 years in a row
• Inducted in the Baseball Hall of Fame (1973 - posthumously)
• First Latin-American inducted into the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame.
• Only player to have had the mandatory 5 year waiting period for HoF induction waived.
• Awarded for his humanitarian work (Posthumously)

Clamente gave back to the community as well and was heavily involved in charity work and relief efforts. He was killed in a plane crash on December 31, 1972 delivering relief supplies to Nicaragua after an earthquake.
