On D-Day, the paratroops were to secure key objectives, towns, and causeways inland from Omaha beach. Paratroopers were light infantry troops who could be moved into a position as needed. They could either be dropped behind the enemy lines as in many of the invasions. Or they could be quickly deployed to a position that needed immediate reinforcement, such as at Battle of the Bulge (i.e. Bastogne). Paratroopers could also be used very much like Commando or Special Forces in that they could hit a small objective with speed and stealth.

Paratroopers are specially trained soldiers who are trained to jump out of planes using parachutes in order to quickly deploy behind enemy lines or into combat zones. They are known for their high level of physical fitness, tactical skills, and ability to operate in difficult conditions.
