All in all the Vikings were a tough crowd not into crewel work or macrame. Based on Valhalla, where they wanted to go after death, they spent a lot of time drinking, eating and fighting (as recreation) much like a modern outlaw motorcycle gang. They'd also sing songs or be sung to, tell stories (like the start of Beowulf) and engage in tests of skill - knife and axe throwing a other many contests like eating or drinking (like the story of Logi and Loki's eating contest). No double lot of time was spent with the lassies as well.
They might spend useful spare time in keeping their gear tuned up - repairing mail, sharpening equipment and undenting armor.
