There is no concrete "divsion" which established the three branches of government (legislative, executive, judicial). It was just a decision. The model is based largely on the political theory/analysis of Baron de Montesquieu, but it was really just an abritrary invention. It could have just as easily been divided into one branch, or two branches, or ten, or one hundred. Or, the three branches could have have been divided differently: Church, State, and Business; Land, Sea, and Air; Animal, Vegetable, and Mineral; Rock, Paper, Scissors. When a group seizes power by force, they're pretty much free to formulate it anyway they want. There is no natural division of government power.
