To understand Shiva we must keep in mind that every Hindu god represents a force within us. The gods enables us to have control over the force they represent.
The seven basic Hindu gods:
The seven basic forces are represented by seven gods.
They are,
1. Dreaming force - Indra
2. Illusory force - Shakti
3. Voluntary force - Brahma
4. Semi voluntary force - Vishnu
5. Involuntary force - Shiva
6. Status altering force - Shani
7. Compulsive force - Yama
The Semi voluntary force is the default force and Vishnu is the default god. The Semi voluntary force maintains status quo and therefore Vishnu is considered as the preserver.
The Trimurti:
The central three forces are easy to use for any one, compatible with each other and with both our thoughts and actions. Thus, Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva, together represent a single god called Trimurti.
What does Shiva represent?
Vishnu force is a status quo maintaining force and being of medium magnitude is not always sufficient. Therefore, if the semi voluntary force is insufficient then the mighty Shiva forces comes into play and enables us to achieve what we want. It then banishes it from the conscious mind because the status of Shiva created activity would be higher and we can't afford to use it always.
Shiva the destroyer:
Shiva is popularly known as the destroyer. However, if Brahma creates a monster it is always Vishnu who destroys it and not Shiva.
Shiva is thus considered as the destroyer because he banishes from consciousness what he creates, giving us a feeling that it is destroyed.
However, what is achieved with the Shiva force retains a separate identity, stored separately and can be used repeatedly but in an emergency only. After this the Shiva force is ready for any new emergency.
Shiva, the mightiest Hindu god:
Though Shani and Yama are mightier forces they are too dangerous to use. This makes Shiva the mightiest of the regularly worshiped gods.
Parvati, the consort of Shiva:
Parvati is symbolic of the Involuntary force in half way stage. This half way stage is necessary because the Involuntary Shiva force is not under our control and thus we have to control it slowly and systematically.
Shiva the holistic god:
Being a mighty force it is tempting to make this reserve force a holistic god. This is made possible to some extent by Parvati and sons Ganesha and Subramani.
Shani is supposed to be a follower of Shiva and is called as Shaneshwara. This belief enables us to use the Status altering Shani force through Shiva making Shiva mightier.
Human beings have seven basic forces with which they can control their thoughts and movements.
They are,
1. Dreaming force - Indra
2. Illusion force - Shakti
3. Voluntary force - Brahma
4. Semi voluntary force - Vishnu
5. Involuntary force - Shiva
6. Status altering force - Shani
7. Compulsive force - Yama
These also represent the seven levels of centers of gravity of the body, Indra force keeping the center of gravity at the feet and Yama force at the top of the head.
1. The Semi voluntary or Vishnu force is the default force (Nara - man, ayana - dwelling place). This is a status quo maintaining sinusoidal or wave like force. This works on natural thinking, a blend of reasoning and logic. The voluntary component of this semi voluntary force corresponds to the naval and thus we believe that Brahma is born from the naval of Vishnu
2. The Voluntary or Brahma force, being transient is best suited for testing any thing new. It works on reasoning. Brahma is not worshiped because it is an experimental force and enables us to lead a parallel bad secret life.
The mighty involuntary force makes a thought or action involuntary and banishes it from the conscious mind. It works on logic
These central three forces are compatible with each other and both with thinking and action. Thus the three are merged together as s single force called Trimurti.
Using the outer forces and returning to the default semi voluntary force is more difficult because it needs voluntary force and leads to infinite options.
The above explanation is based on Inner Knowledge and therefore it is absolute fact.
Shiva, Bhrama, Vishnu
Are the three major gods of Hinduism, however if you really find it important you should also look up the minor gods. Some more minor gods are Kali, Durga as well as Lachshme (Not spelled right). There are hundreds of god located throughout India. Shiva is the destroyer, Bhrama is the creator and Vishnu is the sustainer at least that's what I believe is correct.
1. BRAHMA - IN HINDU MYTHOLOGYIn Hindu mythology, Brahma is the god of creation of the universe and all the living creatures in it.
2. IN BRAHMAJNANA
According to Brahmajnana, Brahma represents the manual / Voluntary force. This is a small, transient and controllable force. Agni, the fire god, too represents this force only.
3. IN BRAHMAN
Brahman is made of seven gods. They are,
1. Indra - god of dreaming
2. Shakti - god of illusion
3. Brahma - god of creativity
4. Vishnu - god of stabilization
5. Shiva - god of determination
6. Shani - god of status increase
7. Yama - god of compulsion
4. IN VEDIC MEDITATION
In Vedic meditation Brahma represents our muscular system that has isometrically contracted (hardened) towards the genital region.
5. IN SCIENTIFIC TERMS
Vishnu represents the sinusoidal / s-shaped / sea wave like semi voluntary force. Brahma represents the negative half of this wave, the positive half being Shiva.
6. IN REAL LIFE
For practical purposes Brahma represents the small, transient controllable force, which we use for trials in life and bringing about changes.
The 3 gods represent 3 energies the Shiva Shakti, The Vishnu Shakti, and the Brahma Shakti.
Brahma is the Creator Energy, that which created this whole universe, or rather the energy this whole world is made of.
Vishnu is the managing energy, that which oversees all that is going on.
Shiva is the destroyer energy, now destriyer may sound a bit strange but the concept behind this is that something cannot in place of something else unless the old one is destroyed. So Shiva is also conciderd someone who brings about change too.
These are three forms of the same supreme God, and artists make their pictures of 3D forms or their stories as are described in the Hindu scriptures. Do do otherwise would be offensive to the Hindus.
God Brahma represents the creater ,God Vishnu represents the protecter and the God Shiva represents the destroyer
1. Lord Vishnu-represents rajas guna, the position of an individual depends on him.
2. Lord Shiva- thamas guna, the life and death
3. Lord Brahma- the creator
