What Buddhists believe in is this
The Four Noble Truths, which are:
1) There is suffering (discontentment, unhappiness) in the world
2) There are specific causes of this suffering.
3) There is a state (a mindset, a way of life) where suffering ceases.
4) There is a path (actions, practices) to attain this state of freedom from suffering.
The Buddha laid out the Eightfold Path as what he described as "the Middle Way" to reach enlightenment. This method is less severe than the path that The Buddha followed and avoids the extremes that he tried and failed at to reach enlightenment.
The eightfold path consists of:
1. Right View
2. Right Intention (thought)
3. Right Speech
4. Right Action
5. Right Livelihood
6. Right Effort
7. Right Mindfulness
8. Right Concentration.
In general, we believe in compassion, kindness, generosity, mindful living, nonviolence, and living a life not driven by desires or fears.
The Buddhists believe in the teachings of Buddha called the Dharma.
The Sangha means "the community". Narrowly defined it refers to Monks. Expanded it refers to all those that practice Buddhism.
Buddhism is not a religion. There is no Diety, no reference to the state of being before or after this lifetime. Most importantly there is no "holy book. Elder monks wrote down what they remembered Buddha saying when they realized they were nearing the end of life. Other writings have been added (depending on the sect) but none are "Divinely Inspired"
Some may believe it is a religion because of the belief in an immortal "soul" (not quite the same as the Christian concept) and Nirvana, an eventual long term abode for the soul (again, not quite the Christian Heaven).
The core of Buddhist beliefs are summed up in the Four Noble Truths:
The Eightfold Path lays out a strategy and a method of running your life involving honesty, compassion and good works.
No one but you are responsible for your happiness. No other person or thing can bring it for you.
Buddhists do not believe in anything. Buddhist do not exist through belief, they exist through experience.
Essentially nearly all Buddhists are bound together by an understanding and acceptance of the four noble truths, the essential teachings of the Buddha:
1 - The nature of suffering
2 - The nature of the origin of suffering
3 - The nature of the cessation of suffering
4 - The path to relative and absolute happiness
There are totally 31 types of realms in the universe. Such as Brahma realm, Deva realm (heavens), Humanan realm, Animal realm, Ghosts realm (Pretaloka ) , Hell realms(Narakaya ) etc( Science believes only two types from those which are human realm and animal realm). Living beings are infinitely reborning in these realms (Samsara). But life on any one of these realms is suffering and isn't permanent.
The only answer to these sufferings is enlightenment (reach Nirwana). It is permanent and no sufferings. This is the ultimate reality about all of living beings. Always living beings are get mad with their desires. So they can't understand this.
Nirwana is the only place we can hide from all sufferings.
Anyway we can make our life less suffering(happy) by doing good karmas(Good Works/Pin). If some one doing good kearmas his life will be happy.
Avoid all evil,
Cultivate the good and the true,
Purify your heart,
This is the Teaching of the Buddhas.
