I keep beaking fly wheel key on just turning engine off. I was told to det the valves then I have 3 new fly wheel keys, Have already replaced flywhell eith nre, altenator and mowed on time, Moter ran beter than when I purchased it udrd for last summer. HELP me adjust
The intake valves line up with the intake runners on the intake manifold. The exhaust valves line up with the exhaust runners on the exhaust manifold or headers. With #1 at tdc you can set 1,2,5,7 intake and 1,3,4,8 exhaust valves. Rotate the engine one revolution to #6 tdc and set the remaining valves.
If the engine is an interference engine, yes, you can have internal engine damage if the belt is installed incorrectly.

IIRC, it's 0.016". Valves must be set hot, with the engine running.
The valve lash on your 3306 Caterpillar diesel engine, can be set by adjusting the adjustment screw. The adjustment screw should not be set to tight.
Set your valve lash to 0.006". You actually need two feeler gauges to do this--a .006 "go" gauge and a .008 "no go" gauge. When the .006 goes in and the .008 won't, you've got it. They used to say set the exhaust valves to .004. You tend to break valves at that clearance.
They are set at .004 . Set with the timing mark is at 0 degrees and that cylinders valves are closed. Rotate 360 and set other side.
yes it will ,its an interference engine meaning that pistons will hit valves bending them.to cure this problem is to either purchase a set of new valves or you can buy a new engine or you can avoid this by just simply have the timing belt change good luck peace.
The valves and injectors, on a Caterpillar C 12 diesel engine, must be adjusted in time with each other. Use the adjustment screws on the injectors to set the timing.
The valve clearance is set by grinding the faces if there is too much clearance or grinding the tip of the stem if there is too little. If it is a OHV engine you can easily adjust the valves. Try going to the link below for a video that shows how to adjust the valves.
