Browsers are a kind of translators, that convert a web page developed using HTML tags into what we see as a web page. If you select 'view source' by right clicking a web page on windows os, you can see the code that the browser used to create the page you are viewing. Internally they use layout engines to render the page.

It simply browses the web... which is obvious but really it shows the content of the internet (The thing is that you are probably using a web browser now to see this)
