Generally, flood insurance doesn't actually cover many types of flooding. If there is flooding from rain, you will have some coverage. However, if the flooding is due to rising water, like a river overflowing, it is usually not covered.

Every policy is different, but in general, it usually covers the structure, like walls, floors, foundation, air conditioning, Plumbing, and electrical. It often also covers a limited amount of personal items, such as clothes, some appliances, some artwork, and curtains.

Stuff in basements is less likely to be covered than stuff on the main living floors. Mold and mildew damage often is not covered. Nor is outdoor property, like Swimming Pools or septic tanks.

You will have to read your specific agreement to see what is and is not covered on your policy.
