The difference is that science tries to explain what is measurable. Technology is the processes, inventions, or techniques that are applied to solve certain problems.

They sound like totally different things. In centuries past they were two different things.

Since our modern world decided to marry science, the "why" of the physical world, with technology, the "how" of the physical world, we found that we improved on both. Knowing "why" gives insight to the "how" and better technology is the result. Knowing "how" can give insight to the "why" and that is how science is improved. The discovery of this synergistic effect was evident all through the 20th century and made our world radically different from that of 200 years ago.

A good example is the development of radar. Scientists learned about the properties of radio waves, which leads to the invention of practical radar, which itself gave insight into weather, which forced the invention of Doppler radar, which improved the understanding of tornadoes, which gave rise to the ability to give better tornado warnings, which forces the invention of better ways to get these warning to people (better siren systems, reverse 911, more localized weather radios), and so on....

Most of the technology we have in the 21st Century came from marrying science with technology.
It's based and operates based on scientific discoveries and principles.
