[10] Feed the soil food web through the waste products ka exudates that they empty into soil. [11] Feed people with edible plant parts for salads; fried, cooked and baked goods; and flavoring. [12] Feed the critters of the wildland-urban interface where people and nature meet. [13] Engage in parasitic and symbiotic relationships with soil organisms such as root knot nematodes and nitrogen-fixing nematodes, respectively. [14] Breathe. [15] Add to organic matter in soil, through death and decomposition.
