That's the service engine soon / check engine light
It means that a malfunction has been detected that effects the emission control system
If the light is flashing on and off , an engine cylinder misfire has been detected and should be repaired as soon as possible
If the light is on solid , it could be a temporary malfunction caused by anything from the gas cap not installed correctly , poor quality fuel etc . Use the vehicle a few times from a cold start and see if the problem corrects itself and the light goes out ( as long as your engine isn't overheating and your oil pressure is O.K. )
If the light doesn't go out , have the Escape scanned for any trouble code(s) to help diagnose and then repair the problem
