Green house effect is a process in atmospheric physics that traps heat in the Earth's atmosphere. It is the result of physical interaction between components of the atmosphere (greenhouse gases) and incoming sunlight.

It is not a layer of carbon dioxide in the sky that reflects heat back down as it radiates from the Earth's surface. Heat is absorbed by the carbon dioxide all through the atmosphere and the warmer gas "shares" its heat with all the atmospheric gases increasing the average atmospheric temperature.

The gradual heating of a planet's atmosphere due to a rise in the concentration of certain gases that trap heat from the star that said planet is orbiting and cause temperatures to rise. Venus is a perfect example of greenhouse effect gone rampant.

The phrase 'greenhouse effect' means warming that results when solar radiation is trapped by the atmosphere; caused by atmospheric gases that allow sunshine to pass through but absorb heat that is radiated back from the warmed surface of the earth.

Why does the greenhouse effect increase earths average temperature?

The earth has a greenhouse effect that keeps the planet warm. This is natural, supported by the carbon and water cycles, and has been going on for millions of years. Greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide and methane from human activities mean the earth is experiencing an enhanced, or accelerated greenhouse effect which is causing global warming.

Rising sea levels and changes in weather patterns are possible outcomes of what?

The greenhouse effect

What does the greenhouse effect refer to?

Global Warming and Heat

What is the difference between the greenhouse effect and photosynthesis?

The greenhouse effect is a natural process that keeps the Earth warm. Without it, the earth would be unable to retain enough heat to sustain life. The enhanced greenhouse effect is caused by the all the extra greenhouse gases (carbon dioxide, methane etc) that we put into the air from burning fossil fuels and agriculture (cattle belches). These all trap more heat and radiation from the sun than is normally required. The earth radiates infrared energy from the sunlight that reaches the surface which should escape off into space, but due to the enhanced greenhouse effect, this radiation is trapped. Therefore, the overall temperature of the globe rises.See this link below for a diagram:Global warming is the increase of the average temperature of the earths atmosphere due to the greenhouse effect. The greenhouse effect is caused by high concentrations of methane, co2 and water vapour in the earth's atmosphere . These gases occur naturally (natural greenhouse effect) however due to human activity (cars, burning fossil fuels, deforestation) more of these gases are released, and this enhances the greenhouse effect (so it is called the enhanced greenhouse effect.)

What will be the conclusion in greenhouse effect?

The Greenhouse Effect is real. There is no question that the presence of CO2 and other greenhouse gases keeps this planet comfortably warm. The alarming crisis of Global Warming arises from the ever-increasing concentrations of greenhouse gases in our atmosphere as a direct result of human activity. All of the science suggests that increasing greenhouse gas concentrations will inevitably lead to a rise in global temperature. How much and how quickly temperature will rise is disputed. Nonetheless, as scientists and citizens, we have a responsibility to act now, to educate and work towards changing our habits and our impact on the planet. thanks................

Are climate and weather short term changes in earths greenhouse effect?

Weather is a short term change to the climate, but not to the greenhouse effect. Climate is a long term change to the weather (but not to the greenhouse effect).

How can you use the term greenhouse gases in a sentence?

The greenhouse gases contribute to the greenhouse effect. Greenhouse gases are inescapable.

What is another name for enhanced greenhouse effect?

The greenhouse effect is the natural process by which greenhouse gases keep the earth's temperature at a comfortable level suitable for human existence. The enhanced greenhouse effect is the increase in greenhouse gases that is leading to global warming. The term "enhanced greenhouse effect" is also referred to as the "anthropogenic greenhouse effect" and is the idea that humans may have an effect on global climate. It is also referred to as the "runaway greenhouse effect".

What is the other name for the greenhouse effect?

There really is no other term for the effect of greenhouse gases besides the greenhouse effect.Other associated terms for what the effects cause include:Global WarmingGlobal Climate ChangeClimate ChangeGreenhouse Gas Effect

What term can be affected by the greenhouse effect?

The term familiarly known as 'Ocean Front Property'.

What is the another term for the greenhouse effect?

Global warming, but the two terms are not the same. The natural greenhouse effect keeps the planet warm. The enhanced greenhouse effect causes global warming.Global warming causes climate change.

What is the process by which gases in the atmosphere absorb and reradiate heat?

Greenhouse Effect

What can be affected by the greenhouse effect?

The term familiarly known as 'Ocean Front Property'.

What term refers to the sun's energy being trapped in our atmosphere?

the greenhouse effect

What is a sentence with greenhouse effect?

The greenhouse effect is the natural way that the Earth keeps warm. Too many extra greenhouse gases turn the greenhouse effect into an enhanced greenhouse effect. The enhanced, or accelerated, greenhouse effect is causing global warming.

The trapping of heat by a planet's atmosphere is called what?

it allows solar radiation to penetrate to the surface!

What is meant by the term greenhouse effect listing the three most significant greenhouse gases?

The term "greenhouse effect" is made up of two different effects: "Natural and Man-made". There is a "natural" greenhouse effect that keeps the Earth's climate warm and habitable. There is also the "man-made" greenhouse effect, which is the enhancement of Earth's natural greenhouse effect by the addition of greenhouse gases from the burning of fossil fuels (mainly petroleum, coal, and natural gas). The three most significant green houses gases and the amount they contribute are water vapor (80%), carbon dioxide (6%) and methane (1%). Nature produces 99.7% of all green house gas emissions.
