The "diesel problem" is an emissions problem affecting 2010 to 2015 cars with VW diesel engines. In 2010 the US government introduced very strict emission standards for diesel engines. VW was thinking about buying Mercedes' emission control technology but chose instead to invent their own. The one they invented didn't work so VW decided to program its cars to go into a special low-emission but low-performance mode if it detected a test was being run. They got caught.The cars have dirtier exhaust than allowed, but they'll run fine until VW figures out how to fix them and does it.

If I remember correctly the 1.9 is the diesel engine. I'm not up to date on the specs for the diesel engines. Check your owners manual or call your local VW dealer. It is probably something like a 505.1 spec oil, but I don't know.

What is the diesel leak off for on an injector?
The diesel leak off is for getting air out of the system should you run out of fuel. It is very difficult to get the diesel engine restarted after running out of fuel as compared to a gasoline engine which is relatively easy. Once you have run your diesel out of fuel, the injectors must be primed for you to have even a chance of getting restarted. So, VW/ Mercedes owners, keep that tank about a quarter.
