Although the food supply in the U.S. is one of the safest in the world, pathogens and disease-causing bacteria can still find their way into certain foods causing foodborne illness. Foods that are at greatest risks of developing or that are the most susceptible to disease-causing bacteria include:

  • Raw meat or poultry
  • Raw or partially cooked fish or seafood
  • Unpasteurized dairy, such as raw milk, cheese, and yogurt
  • Raw soft cheese, such as Brie, Feta, Queso Fresco, and Camembert
  • Raw or undercooked eggs
  • Unpasteurized vegetables or fruit juices
  • Unpasteurized meat spreads
  • Salads prepared on-site in deli establishments
  • Raw sprouts, such as beans or alfalfa

There's a lot and it's dependent on a lot of things.

In 2011 cucumbers grown in Europe were linked to E.Coli bacteria.

Improperly cooked food is a source of a lot of food based illnesses. Chicken and pork especially cannot be cooked pink like the red meats and must be fully cooked. If they're not they can be dangerous to eat.

Additionally food that is kept warm under heat lamps can also be the cause of illness.

Salmonella poisoning is another fairly serious illness, this can be present in both of the above, both uncooked or partially cooked food. It can present as just food poisoning and the various short to medium term symptoms around it, but it can also present more serious long term symptoms.
