Traditional Italian foods include: 1. Pasta, which can be prepared using different types of sauce. 2. Pizza, which can be prepared with fresh produce; herbs and vegetables; cheese and local meat such as Prosciutto which is thin uncooked ham. 3. A wide range of different types of meats such as chicken; veal, etc. 4. Seafood and fish are also very popular. 5. Bread without butter and salads are also very common. 6. Desserts include cannoli; panettone; ricciarelli; amaretti; Fresh fruit and Gelato (Italian ice cream). The above is usually accompanied by a good bottle of home-made red "Vino".
Some typical foods eaten in Italy include Pesto, Pasta, Tomato sauces, white sauces, coffee, veal, beef, wine, fish, fresh vegetables, etc.
Some typical dishes eaten in Italy are stuffed mushrooms, veal milanese, bruschetta, antipasti (meats and cheeses eaten before a meal as appetizers), risotto, polenta, pasta (usually with much less sauce than Americans are used to) and so much more.
Drinks during the meal are usually wine (vino) and/or mineral water. Coffee is served after dinner.
Traditional Italian menus have five sections which usually consist of an appetizer (antipasti), first course (primo), second course(secondo), and a side dish (contorni). There is also the dessert (dolce), which is usually a fruit dish or cheese. Generally they will order from at least two courses and their meals last much longer than a typical American meal, sometimes hours long.
pasta, pizza and any kind of sause
Pasta al sugo is the most common one. It's pasta with tomato sauce.
Other than that there are many other kinds of pasta, as lasagna, ravioli, cannelloni. Each of them can be combined with a variety of dressings.
Another typical example could be the cold cuts, as raw ham (prosciutto crudo), mortadella (bologna), salami and bacon (pancetta).
Talking about meat, there are many roasted ones, as the Roman "porchetta", the Sardinian "porcetto", and "vitello tonnato"(meat with tuna sauce).
Regarding desserts, number one is, in my opinion, tiramisu, close to panna cotta and others. Ana Maria da Costa http://www.all-about-italian-food.com
