You will have excess engine wear. Look at it this way. The engineers designed the engine in your car. They then chose a weight of oil that you should use. You decide to ignore them and use something else. What exactly do you think will happen? And besides, what good reason do you have for using a weight of oil other than what they recommend? But, it is your car so use what you want, just don't expect good results.
Depends on the year and engine size.4.0L uses 10w305.2L/5.9L use 10w304.7L uses 5w20 or 5w30 (depends on year)5.7L uses 5w206.1L uses 5w20Depends on the year and engine size.4.0L uses 10w305.2L/5.9L use 10w304.7L uses 5w20 or 5w30 (depends on year)5.7L uses 5w206.1L uses 5w20
If you do the check engine light may come on with a code for improper oil used. If that happens the multi displacement system will be disabled. Use 5w30/5w20, whichever is correct for your model year.
If you mean 5w20 synthetic the answer is NO. Pontiac recommends SAE 10w30 weight oil in Synthetic or Conventional. Use exactly that weight.
Yes, 10w30 can be safely used in that engine. The only thing you will want to watch is when it gets colder, like below freezing, if that happens in your area. However, there is no real benefit to running 10w30 instead of 5w30. The only difference between the oils is the 5w30 flows a little better at cold temperatures than the 10w30. When the oils get up to operating temperature they are practically the same viscosity.
The 2005 model year neon calls for 5w20 to be used. However, if 5w20 isn't available in your area 5w30 can be used. From what I can tell there were no changes made in the engines from 2004 to 2005 that warrented a change in oil viscosity recommendation, so the change was to satisfy fuel economy requirements. You should be able to run 5w30 or 10w30 without a problem.
Use exactly what your owner's manual recommends. If it says use 5w30, then do not use 5w20. There is no reason to use what is not recommended by the engineers that developed the engine. They know what should be used and have told you. Use anything else at your own risk.
Hi, Which engine is it, 2.7L - 5w20. 5.7L - 5w20/Mobil - 5w40
5W20
5w20
No, 5w20 only
5w20 is what is printed on my 2005 EX-L oil cap. You probably won't go wrong with 5w20 or 5w30. Use 5w20 especially if you live in a cold climate.
5w20
