Nobody knows yet. There have been many "Sightings" of "Nessie", but not always credible.

Technology has failed to reveal any evidence: On 11 October 1987, "Operation Deepscan", a major sonar exploration of the Loch, was undertaken by a team of 20 cruisers. High-tech sonar equipment bounced sound waves to the bottom of the lake, electronically recording any contacts. Three sonar contacts showed up as crescent shaped marks, but the results of the sonar test did not indicate there was anything unusual on the bottom of Loch Ness. Many say no, the Lockness Monster does not exist because there is no such thing as monsters besides in movies. Others say there is some evidence that it does exist, but it is anecdotal evidence. Nothing is proven about whether it does or does not exist.

Loch Ness Monster

The Loch Ness monster is a cryptid. It is described as a long necked lake monster with flippers and some also describe horns. Most avid scientists believe that there are many Loch Ness Monsters (a school) in Loch Ness.

There have been several investigations into the Loch Ness Monster, more commonly referred to as, Nessie.

There is no scientifically validated proof yet that Nessie exists. Scientists have been on the water, in the water and under the water with all kinds of electronics equipment and so far, have not turned up decisive evidence that Nessie exists.

However, many sightings have been reported by credible witnesses and some photos as well as sonar images have been presented. Nevertheless, the best known photograph has nothing in it to show scale or distance. If there was a reference, then proving or disproving Nessie would be easier.

The earliest sighting recorded was said to be an attack on a villager at the margin of the river Ness in 565 but that account has been credited to a wild boar attack. An ancient scroll says that a saint to be drove the demon (Nessie) away from villagers.

The latest sighting was in on September 5th, 2000

It's other name is Champ, mainly because it has been spotted in Lake Champlain which is near New York. Another was spotted in a lake in Washington state.

The creature seems to fit the description of a plesiosaur, which is generally thought to be extinct. Australian aboriginal paintings and other sightings by fishermen point to the possibility of the existence of such a creature in recent times.

Champ is a different creature on the North American continent, in Lake Champlain.

Most scientists that are confronted with the evidence consider Nessie to be a evolved form of a Plesiosaur which escaped from the ice age like many other deep sea fish Dinosaurs such as the Coelecanth (another deep sea fish).

The few sightings and location of the sightings suggest that Nessie's are not shy as many believe but instead unwelcoming of shallow water are in preference to the deeps of Lakes

Champ is also believed to be an evolved plesiosaur and has over evolution and much time become a new breed only able to live in fresh water unlike the plesiosaur which could live in both fresh and salty water.

However Nessie most likely keeps this characteristic.

The Loch Ness Monster doesn't exist as the loch only formed 10000 years ago during the ice age and would have killed the loch ness monster as it suffered extremely cold weather and that extreme temperature could not hold a giant cold blooded reptile. Also reptiles have to bask in the sun to warm their blood up quickly or they will die. Take a marine iguana for example they eat algae at the bottom of the sea on the Galapagos Islands and they have to bask in the sun for hours then go to the bottom to eat the algae in the cold sea and they need to resurface back up on the rocks and then face the sun a second time to get the warmth and energy just to digest their food.

Some have said that a huge beast came right up to them on a dock, and that it looked like a large sea serpent. Others believe that Nessie is actually a surviving dinosaur, a Pleseosaurus (I hoped I spelled that right!) One witness reported feeling something bump his boat and seeing waves made by a long, slender creature go rushing ahead of him. There are LOTS of stories, of course. It's hard to know if they're true or not.

There are photos and people saying that they saw it, but none have been officially proven, but many were false.
