It might be. the song , the rather tragic and morbid Ballad- that takes place in an unspecified southern town ( it is not in Florida, by the way) is oddly ambiguous- it starts out a family is eating breakfast and somebody is passing the newspaper- and the headlines seem to intrude on domestic tranquility- an odd way to start a song- though seemingly okay for a movie or TV show. It is not specifically stated in the song if Billie Jo Mcallister ( by the way a tugboat company- and a big one- Mcallister Lines) who is evidentally a suicide- is William Joseph or Wilhelmina Josephine- could be either way. somehow, I get the feeling it was a Girl.
