If NuvaRing® has been left in your vagina for up to one extra week (four weeks in total or less), remove it and insert a new contraceptive ring after a one-week ring-free break. If NuvaRing® has been left in place for more than four weeks, you may not be adequately protected against pregnancy and you must check to be sure you are not pregnant. If you know or suspect that you're pregnant, do not use NuvaRing®. If you are not pregnant, insert a new contraceptive ring. You must use an extra method of Birth Control, such as male condoms or spermicide, until the new NuvaRing® has been in place for seven days in a row.

This is from the Nuva Ring's website.

The answer to this (and other questions about the Nuvaring) can be found on the official Nuvaring website:

After 3 weeks of use, NuvaRing® should be removed for 1 week and then a new one should be inserted. If the ring-free interval has been extended beyond 1 week, the possibility of pregnancy should be considered, and you will need to use an additional method of birth control, such as male condoms or spermicide, until you have used NuvaRing® 7 days in a row. If you know or suspect you are pregnant, do not use NuvaRing®. See your doctor as soon as possible."

If you remove NuvaRing a day late, there are no special concerns about pregnancy as long as it wasn't in for more than four weeks. Put the new ring in on schedule, no later than 28 days after you inserted the last ring.

If you skip a month, then when you restart, you'll need to use a back up method of birth control for the first seven days. If you have intercourse during that skipped month, you will be at risk for unintended pregnancy unless you use another method.

Put it back in as soon as you remember. If you had unprotected sex while the Nuva ring was removed, then there is a risk of pregnancy.

Putting the Nuva Ring in a "little late" on the day it is due should not cause any problems.
