I think it is too obvious -- it is the Spanish word inscribed on the maps -- it is the dry area, the arid zone. ( Like the Empty Quarter in Saudi Arabia, it is not as much of a desert as advertised.....) There is no tribe called the Arizona Indians and the most obvious description of the area between California and New Mexico would be a warning that the area was inhospitable without adeuate planning... The Arid Zone could be fatal.
