Autism Speaks is one of a number of non-profit charities dedicated to raising money to fund research into autism and other autism spectrum disorders (also known as pervasive developmental disorders), including Asperger's syndrome, to find its causes, isolate potential treatments and cures, and work out methods to prevent it.
The Atlanta chapter has contributed much to the autism community and to the Marcus Autism Center, which made a huge impact on my son's progress.

∙ 8y agoAutism Speaks is an organisation that claims to increase awareness of Autism and support families of Autistic people, in reality the charity harms Autistic people by using Propaganda to make autism seem worse than it is in order to increase their profits - very little of which goes towards Autistic people and their families. They also put a lot of money into finding a 'cure' for autism, as Autism is a neurological difference then the only way to 'cure' autism would be to eradicate Autistic people - they seem to be seeking to do this via genetic pre-natal screening and genetic modification.
Autism Speaks is considered a hate group by most Autistic people, particularly given it's involvement in torture of Autistic people at Judge Rotenberg Center and support of parents murdering their Autistic children. Autism Speaks has caused a lot of prejudice towards Autistic people, unfortunately ignorant people pay attention to what small breadcrumbs the organisation gives them rather than paying attention to the harm they cause to Autistic people in general.
