CAD stands for "computer aided design". Typically it's a drafting application or an automated circuit board design or other automated designing product. Autocad is one of the most recognized name.

C.A.D is computer-aided-design and it means that you can create anything using computers !

CAD (computer aided design) was originally a 2D drafting application back in the 1970's. However, it is now fully integrated 3D engineering and architectural software which coordinates all engineering disciplines allowing for a fully coordinated designs of just about anything you can think of. In addition to creating engineering and architectural drawings, it can do bill of material take-offs from those drawings. CAD is widely used by the Department of Defense, Department of Transportation and engineering companies worldwide.

CAD stands for Computer Aided Design.

There are a few different types of CAD software, depending on what type of job it is for.

Most commonly you will see CAD programs being used for things like car or building design, where the designers build the item in question in a computer which is much cheaper than building a real model.

Think of a video game. The premise is similar in that a real world situation is simulated in a computer.

Search wikipedia for a more detailed list of what these programs can do and the names of different packages.
