It's impossible to value such a coin without knowing the condition, year it was minted and country. There were a number of German States that minted coins before the unification of Germany and the pricing is different depending on which country.
There is about 25 dollars worth of silver in this coin. That is all it is worth.
If it has a D mintmark or no mintmark, it is about $1-10 depending on its condition. If there is an "S" mint mark on the front below Ike's head, then it worth more than that. These dollars were made of copper and nickel, rather than silver, in most cases. If the "S" mark is there, check the sides of the coin--is it grey and copper, or darkish and lighter grey? If so, then it is likely 40% silver, and worth about $10 as of today.

The coin is 90% silver and 10% copper not pure silver, but a date is needed.
If it has no mint mark or a D its silver value is zero because these coins were made from copper-nickel. If it has an S mint mark and the words 40% Silver on its packaging it's a special collector's coin worth $10-12 as of 02/2011
There have not been any silver dimes struck since 1964, except in some proof sets. If your coin has an S mint mark on it, it's worth about $1.15; it would be worth more if it were in its original proof set package. If your coin has a P or D mint mark it's an ordinary copper-nickel dime that has been plated to look like silver. It's only worth 10 cents.
In 1993 the Republic of Liberia issued a Nolan Ryan 10 dollar silver proof coin. The value of this coin is about $15.
You have to inspect your coin carefully. If it has a P or D mint mark, it's made of copper-nickel, not silver and is only worth 25¢. If it has an S mint mark and a copper-colored edge it's a copper-nickel proof coin worth maybe $2 to $11 depending on its quality. If it's in a holder labelled "Prestige Proof", then it IS a silver coin, but it's not solid silver. U.S. silver coins have at least 10% copper in them. These were made for collectors and sell for $3 to $15 depending on quality and which state is depicted.
The last year Canadian dimes contained silver was 1968. The 1981 dime is worth 10 cents.
