The process of separating the original information or SIGNAL from the MODULATED CARRIER. In the case of AMPLITUDE or FREQUENCY MODULATION it involves a device, called a demodulator or detector, which produces a signal corresponding to the instantaneous changes in amplitude or frequency, respectively. This signal corresponds to the original modulating signal
A demodulator is a circuit used in AM (amplitude modulation) and FM (frequency modulation) receivers to separate the information that was modulated onto the carrier from the carrier itself. It could be audio and/or video information, or other data. A demodulator is the analog of the modulator. The modulator puts the information or intelligence onto a carrier wave at the transmitter end, and the demodulator pulls it off so it can be processed and used on the other (the receiver) end. A link is provided to the Wikipedia article on the demodulator.

Modulating. The word modem comes from Modulator/Demodulator
A modulator modulates the carrier frequency, while a demodulator detects the modulation on the carrier wave and recovers the original lower frequency waveform at the destination. For many years the modulated carrier wave was converted to a radio signal. Now it is often an electrical signal which is sent down a teleohone line; the information is usually a set of pulses going between computers. When computers are connected to each other in a two-way conversation, the MOdulator and DEModulator are combined into a single device called a MODEM.
Oddly enough, it's called an A to D Converter and has many sources to obtain, including build it yourself plans or online auctions. There is also D to A converters so please be sure you pick the correct converter.
The received waveforms are in the pulse-shape form. And yet the demodulator needs to recover the pulse waveform.Reason: The arriving waveforms are not in the ideal pulse shapes.Filtering caused ISI and signals appear to be "smeared" and not ready for sampling and detection.Demodulator goal is to recover baseband pulse with best SNR and free of ISI.
demodulator
modem (modulator + demodulator)
Modulator-Demodulator stands for modem
a demodulator sole function is to restore the original modulating signal. it works by removing the Carrier
Modulator/Demodulator
Modulator and Demodulator
demodulator circuit is a circuit which is used for remove all high frequency components from modulated signal.
modulator demodulator
Modem = modulator-demodulator, and is a tool for tweaking an analog signal so that it can be used in a digital device.
MODEM stands for 'Modulator-Demodulator'.
